The last stage of IVF is embryo transfer. In this stage, the effort is induced to implant the fertilised egg that has now become the embryo in the uterus. Since this stage is critical for the accomplishment of fertility treatment, the woman has to take proper care of herself. And obviously, regular visits to a gynaecologist in Punjab is necessary. The fertility experts of the IVF Centre in Punjab remains in constant touch with the woman who has undergone the embryo transfer and try to gather each piece of a report about:
- How is she feeling?
- Has she experienced any blood spot or mild bleeding?
Flashback
How do we get to this stage?
First of all, before the beginning of the ovulation period, the eggs of the woman are extracted and they are mixed with sperm with the intent that the egg can get fertilised with the sperm. When the egg is fertilised, it is no more an egg rather it becomes an embryo that has life. For 3 to 5 days, it is observed in the incubator and finally, the day comes when a woman can finally feel that life is flourishing inside her.
But being gradual in this process is required. Because if a woman hurriedly starts doing all the routine activities right after the implantation, then there are chances that the embryo can get off from the uterus and pregnancy would be rendered terminated.
So What to do?
To assure that the embryo has implanted in the uterus effectively, the grip of the uterus to hold the embryo should be strong. For this, a woman has not only to rely on certain fertility medications but she should be taking proper rest.
Case Study
Ms Ashwani Dave who was our patient has successfully undergone the IVF Procedure. No sooner the embryo was implanted in the uterus than she returned to her job the very next day.
On the third day, her pregnancy was terminated and all the efforts of our fertility experts were in vain. So it is suggested to all the women whether they are pregnant or undergoing any fertility treatment that the first month of the pregnancy is very crucial and so the women should not undergo any stressful activity.
What is bed rest, an ultimate requirement after the embryo transfer?
The bed rest helps the woman’s body to gradually adapt to the changes that have come up owing to the embryo implantation. If the woman on the other hand persists doing the physical activity, then adverse consequences like the miscarriage can be suffered.
What else has to be taken care of?
Make sure you are keeping yourself away from the stress. Usually, it is the responsibility of the family and the husband that he is keeping his wife happy and is doing every possible effort to make her stay away from aunty kind of worry or stress.
