When a couple visits our IVF Center in Punjab they often ask us one common question, “How long does the IVF treatment take?” No doubt, you have been waiting for a long time to conceive and now undergoing the IVF has increased your hopes to become parents. In this article, our fertility doctor has shared the timeline of IVF in detail.
In total, one cycle to IVF takes around 4 weeks which is around the length of the ovulation cycle. The treatment starts with initial testing like assessing the ovarian reserve, egg quality, semen analysis, and uterine cavity ovulation.
What is the fertility testing I need to get before IVF?
Following the treatment, the doctor will make sure your health is perfect. Different tests will be done which includes:
- From mild to moderate genetic carrier screening risks elevations with the blood sugar.
- It might be possible you are asked to make certain lifestyle changes to improve the chances of conception.
If the fertility testing and 90-day preconception health regime are followed then it will take around 4 months or 120 days.
What is a 90-day preconception health routine?
No doubt, if you are healthy the chances to conceive will increase. Even if you make a small change in your diet it is going to leave positive results while getting the IVF. Ideally, it is essential to start the reconception routine 3 months before the IVF treatment begins.
In this time, you need to take the essential prenatal vitamins, increase the water intake, get enough sleep, eat nutritious food including green vegetables and seasonal fruits.
You should avoid the consumption of alcohol and do not smoke. Limit the intake of coffee to 2 cups in a day.
Make sure you follow an exercise regime but it should not be rigorous because excessive stress is also not good for your body. Following these tips and doctor’s guidelines will help your body to be healthy while getting the IVF treatment and increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.
What are the stages of IVF?
The patients will be given medications for 10 to 14 days to stimulate egg production. Once the eggs are produced, they will be retrieved from the ovaries. Once the eggs are retrieved they are kept with sperm for fertilization.
Following fertilization, embryos are formed which are transferred back to the women’s reproductive tract on the 5th day. Then you need to wait for 2 weeks to see the results.
